We get a lot of questions from our clients about the process of stump grinding. This is why we want to share with you some of the answers to frequently asked questions about stump grinding in our post below.
Do I need to eliminate the stump? Removing a stump is necessary for several reasons, including aesthetics, safety, and health. Stumps become breeding ground for pests like termites and rats, and they can invade your house, too! Can the whole stump be removed? Yes. We can unearth the stump together with its root system to remove it entirely. Can you also grind surface roots as well? Yes. We can grind the roots to the ground to prevent them from becoming tripping hazards. How deep do you grind a stump? Our usual SOP is to grind the stump 16 inches below the ground to allow new plantings to grow on the surface. We can also perform shallow grinding where we can mill the tump four inches below the earth. Can I plant a new tree on the previous location of the stump? Definitely. We can make sure to grind the entire stump so you can plant new trees on its surface. How much time is needed for stump grinding? Small stumps can take 15 minutes to grind while larger ones can consume up to hours. Regardless of the stump's size, our equipment is efficient enough to finish the job fast. What does it cost to grind a stump? It all depends on the size, location, and age of the stump. But, the standard rule is $5 per inch of diameter. Do you offer discounts for several stump removal? We do. We also offer discounts if you purchase stump grinding along with other tree services, such as tree removal. Am I left with a big hole when you're done? We will take care of the hole caused by stump grinding. We put chips and other dirt into the hole to ensure your yard is back to its former beauty. Will there be any damage to my landscape? We can assure you that we will perform stump grinding with the utmost care. We utilize equipment that does not put too much pressure on your lawn. Also, we place plastic mats on vulnerable areas to avoid them from being damaged. Do you remove the debris from stump grinding? We can do this optional service as per your request. We can also replant the area with straw and seed, so it can eventually become lawn. Can I use the mulch produced by stump grinding? You sure can. The mulch is a combination of woodchips and debris that can work wonders in flower and vegetable gardens. Can you grind a stump located on the sidewalk or near a wall? We can do it with great precaution. However, we may not be able to remove the stump entirely because of the obstruction. It is essential to let a professional tree removal service do this job because they know how far they can go in stump grinding. How many years will it take for a stump to rot if you leave it in your yard? You have to consider the size, age, moisture level, and species of the stump to tell when it will total rot. A stump located in a place exposed to light, it might take up to 20 years for it to rot completely while a tree in a moist and shaded environment can take only 15 years to decompose totally.
